Just A Talker

RISE AND SHINE FOR JESUS!
By Pam Iannello

Have you ever been involved in a relationship where the other party is a talker and a poor listener? It is exasperating and just about impossible to build a bond with someone who is bent on being the sole speaker in every setting. In the end, people who have a habit of not listening will find that nobody will listen to them! And so it is with the Lord, but on a more serious scale…

Proverbs 28:9 (KJV)
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Ladies, it greatly upsets God when we sport an indifferent attitude toward His Word. Think about it; the Bible is filled with things that God has said to His children and the whole world, for that matter. There is counsel in His Word and comfort; there are commands and criticisms and challenges. His Word is filled with promises and warnings and answers and even useful questions. Have you been listening to the Lord? Or have you been doing all the talking? Do you hear the law of God or do you just scan it? How much reverence accompanies your contact with your Father in heaven? How much of what God has said have you obeyed? How much have you taken His Word to heart? Have you refused anything He has asked you to do? Have you complied with the things he has told you not to do? Are you giving more regard to God’s Word or sin?

Psalm 66:18 (KJV)
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

How will you find out whether or not there is iniquity in your heart if you don’t pay heed to God’s Word? Let’s face it; if we aren’t going to listen to God, why should He listen to us? In such cases you don’t need to wonder why God doesn’t answer your prayers, the Bible just told us why! Most of us don’t realize that a lot of the things we are constantly asking God have already been answered in His Word. We just haven’t stopped talking long enough to listen… It’s always easier to talk than to listen, isn’t it? But oh, the things you miss – some of them very detrimental to our well being… Yes, God has something to say too! And nothing hinders prayer like iniquity and an ear that is turned away from hearing the law of God.

Today I’d like you to stop and evaluate your relationship with the Lord. You might be talking to Him all day long, but are your prayers effective? Is there a chance you’ve been forsaking the law of God in some form or fashion?

God Bless,
Pam
