Proverbs 6:20-22 (KJV)
My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: [21] Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. [22] When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

One of the areas Christians tend to struggle the most is in making decisions. This is a time when a great deal of doubt and anxiety is experienced by God’s people. However, what we see in our text today is that the effects of attaching God’s Word to ourselves causes decision making to be an uncomplicated task!

Ladies, how would you say that you typically make decisions in your life, no matter the size or subject? Do you do things without really thinking about them? Are your decisions generally based upon your feelings? Do you live on hunches or promptings; do you look for signs and try to sense God’s will? Honestly, if this is your usual method of operation, what would be the reason for attaching God’s Word to your heart and neck?? You see, ladies, the Bible teaches us that we are to be commandment-led, not feelings-led. Thus, by binding God’s commandments continually upon our hearts and tying them about our necks (for steering purposes) God’s truths will always be at hand for use in every circumstance. The looser your attachment to the Word of God, the harder your decisions will be and the more room your feelings will have to lead you around. Beware of choices that appeal just to your senses! Think about the decisions you have had to make in recent days or even during the last few months… Can you truthfully say you were commandment-led? Was it the Word of God you consulted for confirmation every step of the way, or did you resort to other means of verification? How often does the Word of God talk to you? How often do you obey it when it does? Are you quite certain you haven’t been talking to yourself?

Sadly, feeling-oriented living is so dominant in the church today that it has brought about much confusion and heartache and necessitates a lot of counseling after decisions have been made. Bind God’s Word upon thine heart always; tie it about your neck and you will protect yourself from corrupt leadership! Yes, the commands of the Bible will speak to us in the decision-making situations of life… God promises us that His Word will lead us; His Word will keep us and His Word will talk with us. It is worthy to be esteemed a trusted guide. In this way, decision making can be stress-free!

God Bless,
Pam
