Rule Your Heart
RISE
AND SHINE FOR JESUS!
By Pam Iannello (my late mother)
"Rule Your Heart"
Col. 3:15 (KJV)
And let the peace of
God rule in
your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye
thankful.
Rule: judge, decide, govern
When peace rules in your
heart that is proof that your heart is right with God. When we lose
our peace, it is awful proof that we have lost something else; that
we have given way to evil and grieved the Spirit of God in dropping
off our connection to Him. And ladies, this occurs when we cease
depending upon the Lord…
Are you letting peace rule your
heart or an assortment of anxieties?
Peace is not the absence
of a threat – it is a constant controlling power in the face
of any and all trials or tragedies. Think about the latest situations
that have come about in your life just this past week – how did you
handle each one? How did you counsel yourself as circumstances
unfolded? What is your typical train of thought when things happen
unexpectedly? How do you decide how to act or respond? What is your
governing disposition from beginning to end? Can you look back and
say that PEACE RULED YOUR
HEART?
Ladies, we must manage
ourselves as believers to the end that we can see God’s indwelling
presence has more sway over us than anything else that comes to pass.
Are you permitting the peace of God to sit and preside over all your
affairs or are you blocking it? Yes, it is possible to know what
is right and want what is right but still block what is
right. By not letting peace rule, we are wasting God’s grace and
what a dreadful reality that is! What kind of a steward would the
Lord say that you are of the peace He has offered to you?
Psalm 29:11 (KJV)
The Lord will give
strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.
Peace isn’t something
you pull in at the last minute – it stands as an umpire of your
heart, ready to call the play as the “ball” comes in. If you’ve
honestly assessed your humanity you would concur that our souls need
strict government and our passions and emotions and thoughts need
holy, healthy, honest, and hard regulation continuously.
Ladies, our heavenly Father wants to rescue us from anxiety and panic
and depression and discouragement and confusion and weakness and all
other forms of behavior that usually kick in under duress. But the
truth is we won’t LET Him! We are quicker to submit to a satanic
style of rule than we are a Biblical style of rule. Does it make
sense to you that rubbing elbows with a roaring lion would bring us
true tranquility?? Sooner or later that lion will turn around and
devour you once you drop your guard. Only God can offer us ideal
protection from the wiles of the devil!
If peace is going to
rule your heart you must let it. That is what the Bible says. You
must consciously choose to lean upon God’s Word, God’s
Spirit, and God’s character and opt to rest in His will and trust
in His ways. Peace doesn’t come by swallowing a pill or arranging
your circumstances around your feelings or desires and it doesn’t
come by satisfying your curiosity either. That is false peace and
cheap peace at best. Is there a false peace in your heart today?
Yes, you can choose to operate in such a way and it might pacify you
for a little while, but it won’t last long and it will absolutely
cheat you out of the real thing! Most of all, it won’t please God
or bring you closer to Him. And to be honest with you, that should
be your goal as a child of God!
John 16:33 (KJV)
These things I have
spoken unto you, that in me
ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have
tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Not letting peace rule in
your heart is rudeness toward the Lord, for in so doing you have
shunned a priceless gift and a holy blessing. You’ve also pushed
away an opportunity for the world to see what a dramatic difference a
personal relationship with God can make in one’s life. Jesus Christ
is the Prince of Peace and princes have every right to rule! When He
reigns in your heart He will rule your actions – very capably and
in a God-honoring fashion… What kind of persuasion are you
permitting Christ’s presence to have upon your heart?
John 14:27 (KJV)
Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
God Bless,
Pam
